First grade papers weaving

First graders created two water color paintings, both abstract, one using only warm colors and the other using only colors. The second day we we followed careful directions and learned about weaving and created a warp and weft. Using an alternating over and under pattern, we wove our warm and cool paintings together.

O'keeffe flowers

Second grade artists learned about the life and artwork of Georgia O'Keeffe. We talked about how her flower paintings were almost abstract because they were created from a bug's perspective--meaning they were very close up to the viewer. We cropped our flower drawings so our flowers touched all sides of the paper. We outlined in glue, after the glue dried we added color and value with pastels. Our flowers were warm colors and our backgrounds were cool colors or visa versa.

Kindergarten sunflowers

Kndergarteners studied the life and artwork of Vincent Van Gogh. We paid careful attention to his sunflower paintings and by careful observing these paintings, we created our own. We drew with sharpie, and used oil pastels to add color. We chose any colors we wanted, but had to then add white oil pastel on top of it, to create a tint of the color.
